What Is A.A.

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of people who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.

It doesn’t cost anything to attend A.A. meetings. There are no age or education requirements to participate. Membership is open to anyone who wants to do something about their drinking problem.

A.A.’s primary purpose is to help alcoholics to achieve sobriety

Since the book Alcoholics Anonymous first appeared in 1939, this basic text has helped millions of men and women recover from alcoholism.

Currently available in the General Service Conference-approved Fourth Edition, the Big Book contains the stories of the co-founders, as well as many members of diverse backgrounds who have found recovery in the worldwide Fellowship.

A.A. IN THE U.A.E.

For decades, A.A. has been a cornerstone of support in the UAE, fostering sobriety through both in-person meetings held across the various Emirates and more recently with online meetings for those unable to attend in person.

The fellowship continues to flourish, with consistent attendance from several hundred individuals at meetings throughout the Emirates. Through the transformative power of the 12 steps, countless people have found hope and healing, embarking on journeys of sobriety and self-discovery. As described in the Big Book, "Yes, there is a substitute (for alcohol) and it is vastly more than that. It is a fellowship in Alcoholics Anonymous. There you will find release from care, boredom and worry. Your imagination will be fired. Life will mean something at last. The most satisfactory years of your existence lie ahead. This we find the fellowship and so will you."

THE TWELVE STEPS.

A.A.’s Twelve Steps are a group of principles, spiritual in their nature, which, if practiced as a way of life, can expel the obsession to drink and enable the sufferer to become happily and usefully whole

THE TWELVE TRADITIONS.

A.A.’s Twelve Traditions apply to the life of the Fellowship itself. They outline the means by which A.A. maintains its unity and relates itself to the world about it, the way it lives and grows
